8 year old girl with right lower abdominal pain

8 year old girl presents with right lower abdominal pain, diarrhea for about 10 days and subfebrile temperature.

The clinical diagnosis was acute appendicitis and she underwend appendectomy.


Grossly the appendix was unremarkable.

Sections are submited from the tip of the appendix and cross sections.

Magnification:  4x, 10x, 40x

DX: Click here

Diagnosis: Nematodes. Enterobius vermicularis.
How to handle such case:
- If you have a kid with clinical diagnosis of acute appendicitis and no pathologic corelation (no acute inflamation) look for the wormies.
